"It was time," said Kevin Jonas, 25, on Good Morning America Wednesday.

The morning show touted that this would be the "only interview" the Jonas Brothers would do to explain the big news that hit this week — they're over as a music group.

"I'm the one that initiated the conversation," said Nick, 21, who did most of the talking as Robin Roberts did the interviewing. "We're family first, and that's always been our main priority. And so, honesty within that, within what we do as a group, was really important. So I came to the table with the guys just before we were prepping to leave for our tour and I shared my heart with them, my feelings."

He added, "In a nutshell, I said I've feel like we've had some complications in the group for a long time."

Kevin was nodding at that point.

"I think this train will fall off the tracks with really getting real about some of the concerns and limitations we may feel, as individuals in the group. It was a tough conversation." He added that it took "a few days of working through."

Now, he says, "after a lot of thinking about it and talking about it," they are going to pursue their own passions. "And choose to be brothers first."

Joe, 24, explained that they tried to hold on to the music "for so long." But, he said, at some point, "it felt like it was starting to get stale to us."

There were "things that we were just butting heads about. Whether it was the way to set up the music video to even personal opportunities. At some point, we decided it was best to finish this and support each other."

Kevin said the album will "not be completed but we will be doing something for our fans. They have traveled with us for so many years we did not want to leave without giving them back something. So we're going to release four of the songs. The rest of the album will never be released. Then we'll put the live tracks from the last summer tour – about 10 songs – we'll be giving that to fans, just as a gift."

He added, "We know it's going to be sad for a lot of people, but for us, we are looking forward to the future."

5th/6th grade loses in three sets...AGAIN!

For the fifth time this season, the 5th/6th grade girls lost in three sets, following a miraculous comeback to even force a final set.

Down 23-12, the girls rallied back and won in amazing fashion, 26-24. Amy and Isabella spearheaded the run on their serves before eventually stunning the other team and themselves, winning the second set.

But they might have expended all their energy in the second set and barely made a whimper in the final set, losing 15-7.

It was very similar to the first set in which they were completely dominated 25-12.

Their serves were better Sunday and not were not the crux of the problem. Once again, it was the lack of communication on the serve receive. So many balls dropped and hit the ground, and the girls had several hard collisions because nobody talked.

Even one girl admitted after the game, "We didn't (communicate) at all today, and we collided into each other a lot. Even when some of us did call (it), it's either not loud enough or we call it too late."

So it was once again the same huddle the girls have gathered in after the game, trying to dissect another three set loss.

They are now (2-5) on the year, and will need to win next week to have a chance at the playoffs.

7th/8th grade volleyball bounces back

Midway through the first set, the 7th/8th grade girls had faulted on five serves and looked discombobulated, forcing Coach Mitchell to call a timeout. They were tied at 12-12.

Out of the huddle, Edwena was able to coast a third ball over the net for a score and from that point forward, the girls never looked back.

The 7th/8th grade had a string off bump, set and spikes to close out the first set and played an overall strong second set, winning 25-15, 25-9 for their fifth win of the season.

It was a good performance following their second loss of the year a week ago.

One thing the girls worked on during the week was their communication and the girls were much more vocal. They were making calls from all sides of the court, which is a great step forward for a team that will need to communicate better come playoff time.

At (5-2), they have all but officially locked up a playoff berth, but will still need to win next week to secure either a No. 1 or No. 2 seed.

Edwena rattled off a string of serves in the first set, and also recorded an ace on match point. Karina, who served it right into the net in set one, bounced back in the second set and really extended the lead. On one serve, the ball hit another girl right in the chest.

Vivianna, Fiona, Edwena and Victoria all scored points with tips by the net or some nice hits.

Last minute goal sinks soccer team

It was another tough one to swallow for the 7th/8th grade soccer team, as they give up the game winning goal in the final minute of the game.

On the flipside, would you rather lose a game or have the game end in a draw, because that's the way the match was headed.

Neither team looked like they had much, if any energy until midway through the 3rd quarter. With the 10 a.m. start, both teams just went through the motions in the first half, neither team mustering a shot on goal.

Alan had a golden opportunity to put the boys ahead with a penalty kick in the 3rd quarter, but rushed his attempt, shooting the ball right at the goalie.

Garrick had a chance a little later on but kicked a bouncing ball over the net.

The defense held for 47 minutes, but needed to hold for 48. With several of the defenders out of position, a player on the other team managed to find himself right in front of the net to bang in the game winner, leaving Thomas with no chance to make the save.

It has been disappointing and frustrating for the 7th/8th grade (1-6) as they have now lost three games by one goal. They seem to play just well enough to lose.

Their final game of the season, and for most of these boys, their soccer careers, will be next week in a championship rematch from 2012.

3rd/4th graders drop penultimate game

It's been a string of slow starts for the 3rd/4th grade volleyball team and Saturday morning was no different.

After dropping the first set 25-4, the girls bounced back and almost pulled off their first set victory, but ultimately losing 25-21.

They play in their final game next week.

Team by team breakdown of this past weekend.

3rd/4th grade - The lack of game experience is starting to show...so many balls where nobody gets to, and a lot of balls that are gotten to but never get across. It goes back to practicing and being dedicated and if the team fools around too much during practice and won't listen, it won't get any better.

5th/6th grade - Do you believe a team's record is better than it indicates? The team is (2-4) yet have lost all four games in the final set. In every single game, they were points away from either winning in the first, second or third set. But sooner or later these girls are going to have to learn. Yes, it's a 5th/6th grade combo team and many are very new to the game, but they have shown they are more than capable of winning. That is the frustrating part.

One serve, one side-out, every point is precious and they need to value every possession more than they do.

7th/8th grade volleyball - It's amazing that I am typing this, but the team needs to set better. Never before has that been said. Most of the teams in the past have shown signs of the bump, set and spike. This team is capable of doing it every time and they need to do it every time in order for them to win.

They are in the lowest division but it seems like all good teams were thrown there this season. The girls could play bump vs bump all day, but need to spike to win games. Also, faulting on even one serve is not acceptable.

That is how much these girls have grown in volleyball. It's a lot more critical than before, but they've gotten to the level where this is what needs to be picked apart.

7th/8th grade soccer - We knew coming it it would be a tough season. Most of their games are winnable but at the end of the day, I don't think the team as a whole has the soccer gene.

How many kids went and kicked a ball after soccer season last year?

The answer to that is probably next to none. So for them to just miraculously come back to the field in September, practice for a week or two, and beat all these teams in division two...Close to a miracle...

So they sit at (1-5). The record isn't that disappointing but the fact that even the coaches said several of the players didn't look like they wanted to be there, that's disappointing.

And there was one player who quit the team because "they were losing" too much. Wow...real team player you are.

7th/8th graders defeated in three sets, lose for second time

The road to a championship for the 7th/8th grade girls took a huge detour Sunday night when they were beaten for the second time in the regular season, 18-25, 25-19, 15-8.

Most observers figured it would be a two team race at the top, but it turns out that this entire league is pretty good, and almost any team can beat any team on any given night.

Serve a few balls the wrong way, miscommunicate a couple times, you're going to lose. The margin of error has become extremely thin.

After Edwena saved the girls in the first set with a flurry of hard serves, the girls fell apart in the second set and were never able to recover.

At one point, they held a 14-9 lead, but the other team ran off an 11-0 run, in which the girls could not break the other team's serve. It was lollipop serve after lollipop serve, but the girls were unable to spike the ball to push a point across. And even when they did, the other team had an answer.

The third set was back and forth early on with each team trading points until it was 3-3. Fiona had a chance to give the girls some momentum but her serve hit the net and from there, it was pretty much over.

Their opponent chipped away and extended themselves out to an 8-4 lead, and the rest was pretty much academic.

Faced against their toughest matchup of the season, the girls had no response for the other team's big tall girls who could spike it over the net. The 7th/8th grade (4-2) were on their heels the entire game, diving frantically all over the place just to keep play alive.

Since they were so busy doing that, they couldn't set up good bump, set and spikes on a consistent basis. Simply trading bumps was not going to win them the game.

And even when they did, the other team was able to fight off some tough spikes.

"Everyone played really bad today, everyone," Edwena said. "The ball came in between everyone and no one went for it."

The blame for nobody going for it comes with the lack of communication, a school-wide epidemic that needs to be stopped. Like the 5th/6th grade girls on Saturday, the 7th/8th grade girls had several balls hit the floor where everyone just turned and looked.

In one instance, two girls started going for the ball, but both stopped at the same time because they thought the other girl was going to get it. Neither girl said anything verbally, so the only thing everybody heard was the ball hit the gym floor followed by a cheer.

And that happened a little too much for a team that wants to win it all.

5th/6th grade collapses late

No lead is safe, and unfortunately the 5th/6th grade girls learned the hard way Saturday.

They held a 13-6 lead in the third set, two points away from evening their record at .500 and increase their playoff chances exponentially. But in a collapse that will be tough to match, they were outscored 10-1 the rest of the way and lost the game and final set by a score of 16-14.

Every point not scored loomed large after the fact, as their inability to squeak out even one more point some time during the third set came back to haunt them.

Ashley got the third set off to a bad start when she faulted on her serve, evening the game up at 1-1. Up 12-5, Amy faulted on her serve. Then up 13-6, Annie got her ball over, but when the ball returned, it hit the ground with no St. Mary's girl making a concerted effort to get there. Instead, it just dropped in between confused girls in red jerseys, a sign of things to come.

Leading 13-7, a girl on the other team rolled off eight straight serves, and the girls found themselves trailing 14-13.

All of her serves were in the back row and landed in almost the exact same spot, time after time after time, and yet the girls in that area could not successfully return the ball.

Coach Ashley called a timeout when the girls still held a 13-11 lead, but it seemed like everything said in the huddle went in one ear and out the other. On the next point, the ball landed in between girls as the two stared at each other, confused as to who was supposed to get the ball.

Luckily, Justina was able to keep the girls alive when she was able to finally return a ball from the back row to tie the game back up at 14-14.

It was Isabella's turn to serve and she could've won the match for the 5th/6th grade. But the usually reliable server sent her serve wide right and out of bounds.

Down 15-14, the 5th/6th grade (2-4) could still continue playing if they could push one more point. The other team's serve hit the floor right between two girls in the front row, and a few feet in front of Isabella who was in the server's position.

Game. Set. Match. And a whole lot of what ifs, and should've would've and could'ves.

The only real positive to come out of the game was Annika, who willed the team to a victory in the first set and almost did the same in the second. The girls were down several points until Annika started finding her groove from the serving line. She single handedly put the girls over the top in set one and almost did the same in set two.

This was by far the most frustrating and disappointing loss of the season for these girls. Every game they have lost this season has been in three sets, but this one is going to sting.

They'll need to put this game behind them quick because the next two games could decide their playoff fate.

Yes, the girls have come a long way since the first game of the year, but the potential to do so much more is there, which makes a performance like this ever so much more harder to swallow.

The 5th/6th grade won the first set 26-24, and dropped the second one 25-22. They had previously beaten the team they played Saturday in their previous meeting.

Soccer team can't follow up win

Any glimmer of hopes for a late run towards the post-season were dashed Saturday afternoon at West Sunset, as the 7th/8th grade soccer team was shutout 3-0. It's the third time this season they were held goalless.

Up against another top team in their division for the second straight week, the boys were unable to duplicate the results from a week ago. They just weren't in sync with each other and some players even looked like they didn't want to play.

Some of the most athletic players on the team for whatever reason don't have the jump needed in their step to compete at a high level and it's really hurting the team.

Inconsistency in showing up to practice is also starting to show. With a squad of 14 players, every person is an intricate component of the team. But rarely does the entire team attend practice at the same time, so team chemistry is not where it should be.

It's quite evident in the forwards as there is just no chemistry among the attackers. While the other teams control the ball and score because of passing to each other, the 7th/8th grade (1-5) rely on booting the ball forward and having someone chase the ball down.

Aside from Jackie and Garrick hooking up last week, there haven't been any goals off of nice passes.

They had some opportunities in the second half to break through, but balls were too far ahead, or not controlled by the forwards.

On the bright side, all the goals scored by the other team were byproducts of just solid plays, especially the first goal which was a beautiful free kick over a wall from a good 20 yards away.

Thomas started in goal for the second straight week and played a solid 48 minutes.

With only two games left, the 7th/8th grade is left playing for pride. They play a team they lost to 3-1 to start the season, another game they could've won, and then a championship rematch against the team they lost to last year in the title game.

Even with the post-season out of reach, there's still a lot on the line in the final two games.

3rd/4th graders can't adjust to early start

Maybe it was the 10 a.m. start, the other team's consistent serving, or perhaps it was just one of those days they didn't have it.

Regardless of the reason, the outcome was not good as the 3rd/4th graders played one of their sloppiest games of the year in a 25-5, 25-14 straight set loss.

There were way too many balls hitting the floor on the side of the 3rd/4th graders without even being touched. On several instances, the girls hardly moved, which is not a good sign for a team playing its sixth game of the season.

On serves, none of the girls except for Avalon got into a rhythm and they only returned a handful of balls off the other team's serves.

Some players are also trying to do too much going after balls that aren't in their area, and thus colliding into each other. Not only does the ball not go back over the net, but it's also dangerous.

In their first season as a team, the 3rd/4th grade (0-6) girls are having trouble getting any type of consistency. They've been competitive in most of their games, and were even points away from winning sets, but lately it's been a struggle.

Saturday Recap: Very very rough day

It's not that the three teams lost but in the fashion which they did so...

In chronological order...

The 3rd/4th grade lost 25-5, 25-14. If last night's 7th/8th grade score wasn't an indication of how the game went, well, you can make an argument that this score was generous.

For some reason, the girls just were not focused and looked lost. Maybe it was an early 10 a.m. start or they're still 3rd/4th graders learning the game, but it was hard to find many positives about the performance. Hopefully this will be a lesson learned on what not to do on a volleyball court.

The 5th/6th grade barely escaped a first set 26-24, and were two points away from evening their record at .500. But in a collapse of epic proportion, they blew a 13-6 lead in the decisive set and ended up losing 16-14. They were outscored 9-1 to end the game. They now sit at (2-4) on the season.

Up against arguably the best team in their division, the 7th/8th grade soccer team followed up their win last week with a 3-0 shutout loss. What was disconcerting was that some of the players looked completely out of it and didn't even want to be on the field.

Rough day all around, but you learn a lot more from losing than winning. Hopefully the errors from Saturday serve as a teaching point.

7th/8th grade girls earn a tough win

A 25-13, 25-13 volleyball win will read as a blowout in most boxscores, but the latest 7th/8th grade win by that final score was anything but lopsided.

The girls had to scratch and claw for every single point in their fourth win of the season -- almost every point featured a few back and forth rallys.

Victoria played the most consistent game of the night and served the girls out to a 9-1 lead, a much needed cushion as the other team rallied back to close the gap and make it 13-8 in set one.

But the girls eventually pulled away, closing out the first set on a 12-5 run.

In almost the exact same fashion, Victoria put the 7th/8th grade (4-1) out to a 4-0 lead. She attempted serving overhand twice in the game with the set well in hand, both times on set point. She was successful on her second try.

Their points didn't come from the other team not being able to return a simple serve, so the girls had to do a lot of hitting to score points.

"They're bumping, setting and spiking, rather than just bumping straight over," said coach Mitchell.

Edwena and Fiona made several nice tips at the net, and every girl on the team spiked the ball over at least once.

The hardest of them all came in the second set when Edwena smashed one which almost took out a girl on the other team. Fiona set the ball perfectly and Edwena did the rest. The girl on the other team tried to save it but the ball was moving so fast it hit her in the head as she went crumpling to the ground.

Thankfully, the girl was all right (not alright cause alright is not a word) and was able to laugh off the incident. Edwena put her head down and felt bad about what she did.

Due to the bad traffic, the referee for the game showed up about 20 minutes late, which was a blessing because two of the St. Mary's girls had yet to arrive. Had the game started on time, the 7th/8th graders would've had to forfeit the first set.

7th/8th grade soccer teams breaks through, nets first win

The 7th/8th grade soccer team dug deep and showed everybody that they are capable of not only competing in this tough division, but winning as well.

After four winnable games that resulted in losses to start the season, the boys broke through Saturday at West Sunset with an exciting 2-1 victory against the previously undefeated top team in the league.

After struggling in net to start the season, Garrick was moved onto the field where he made his presence felt in the first 12 minutes of the game.

He had a nice shot on goal just minutes into the game, and then became Joe Thornton, setting up the game's first goal.

Off Joseph's throw-in, Garrick sped down the sideline and turned the corner towards the net. He then sent a ball through the box right to Jackie who banged in the first goal of his career to make it 1-0.

Tied at 1-1 in the 4th quarter, Garrick broke towards the net after getting the inside position on a defender. As he was about to take another dribble, he was tripped up in the box and a foul was called. The 7th/8th graders were awarded a penalty kick.

Alan got the call for the shot and didn't miss, scoring his third goal of the year, which was the game winner.

Ironically, the 7t/8th graders escaped a penalty kick in the 1st quarter when Tyler tripped up an opposing player in the box, leading to a PK for the other team. Luckily, his kick went off the post and the game remained 0-0.

Defensively, the team held strong and did a great job containing the other team's attackers. Not only were they fast, but also a very physical bunch. The only goal came in the firs half when the defense couldn't clear a free kick, which saw the ball come right in front of the goal mouth. 

Thomas, who started his first game in goal this season, gave up just that one goal, and all signs point to him starting in net again next week.

This was a much needed win for a team that felt like they gave away games to start the season. With a win under their belt, they should be more confident and look to keep the momentum going the rest of the way.

Alfonso suited up and played for the first time in a month, while Raymond was absent from the line-up.

Jackie joins Raymond, Garrick, Joseph and Thomas as St. Mary's 8th graders who have scored a goal in their soccer careers.

5th/6th grade girls snap skid, win in straight sets

With former St. Mary's great Sofia and the Mayfields, minus Mrs. Mayfield, looking on, the 5th/6th grade girls broke their trend of losing in three sets with a solid straight set win to improve their record to (2-3) on the season.

After a 25-15 first set win, the girls started fast and pulled away in the middle of the second set in large part to Isabella, who had her best game of the season. She was consistent on her serves and also scored several points on returns for the 5th/6th graders.

As a whole, the girls were much more consistent serving the ball and played with some confidence.

It was nice that on match point, the birthday girl Samantha scored the winning point. Playing up a grade, she has at times like other girls in her grade, struggled serving the ball over the net on a regular basis.

More than halfway through the season, the girls have set themselves up nicely for a playoff run. They have won a set from every team in the division and play each team twice.

Their next game could put them back at .500 if they can win against a team they beat in the first game of the year.

Amy and Annie also had one of their best games of the year.

Shorthanded 3rd/4th graders keep it close

With Avalon out of the lineup, the 3rd/4th grade girls played with only five players and still put up a valiant effort in their game Saturday morning.

After a rough first set, the girls hung tight until the end, and eventually fell to (0-5) on the season in a 25-10, 25-19 loss.

Natalie and Catharine have made big improvements in these last few weeks, as both girls were able to get a few serves over and return the ball over the net as well.

They hope to have Avalon back soon so they can go after that elusive first victory.

7th/8th grade volleyball team takes fourth place in tournament

In a St. Mary's first, the 7th/8th grade girls played in an all day volleyball tournament at Mercy High School, which saw them play a total of 5 matches. Their earliest game starting at 9:30 a.m. and the latest a little after 5 p.m.

They started out strong in pool play winning two out of three matches, putting them in the winner's bracket as a second place team.

Up against some pretty strong teams, they lost game four in two sets and then game five in three sets, giving them fourth place for the tournament.

Most of the eight teams in the tournament were in higher divisions, featuring several girls on each team that played club volleyball. It was bump, set, spike and overhand serve galore.

The girls held their own and a bounce or two their way, they could've probably had third place.

It was a definite fun event as the girls were able to bond as a team the entire team, while eating Krispy Kreme, Cheeze-its, sandwiches and all sorts of other goodies in between their several games.

As for their CYO season, they currently sit at (3-1) at the midway point.

One of their coaches, Tiffany Ye, was not present at Saturday's event.

Not again, 7th/8th grade soccer team loses by a goal

Despite having scraped his shin, Alan knocked in an incredible tying goal from right outside the box. Unfortunately minutes later, the other team scored on an equally magnificent free kick which handed the 7th/8th grade soccer team yet another close 2-1 loss.

The game was headed toward a scoreless tie as neither team showed they really wanted to put the ball in the net. But Garrick bobbled a pop up which ended up in the net, putting the 7th/8th grade behind 1-0.

After Alan's equalizer, Joseph was called for a penalty and the other team was awarded a free kick. And the player taking that kick placed it right in the corner of the net for a spectacular goal.

Yet again, the 7th/8th graders played well enough to lose.

It's unfortunate that a lot of the positive things on the team are overlooked because of the (0-4) record that the team now wears.

Ryan K. has consistently played his best soccer of his St. Mary's career, and Matthew has been all over the field. Julian and Jaime also played well in stretches of Saturday's game.

But playing well hasn't translated to goals, which is something the likes of Raymond, Thomas, Luis, and even Alan need to improve upon.

The team just has no touch when it comes to getting a quality shot on the net.

Last year, scoring came easier when the teams in the division had weak players on their back end who kicked and missed at a lot of balls. Or perhaps players who weren't as fast.

Now, the opponents have large bodies in the backfield that are more than capable of standing their ground. And right now, the 7th/8th graders are unable to penetrate through that wall.

For the second straight week, Alfonso's presence up front was missed, as he didn't suit up for the second straight game.

This team also has no true goalie. Garrick has been thrusted into the position and has had struggled. His mistakes wouldn't be as magnified if the offense was able to put some points on the board, giving Garrick some room to breathe.

Fair or not, the goalie is the one who will be praised and will also take the blame.

With half a season left, the 7th/8th graders will try to salvage what's left of what could be the final St. Mary's soccer team for a while.

Third straight three set loss for the 5th/6th graders

The good news is that the 5th/6th grade girls could've won their last three games. The bad news is, they didn't.

For the third straight game, the 5th/6th grade girls came within points of winning, but again, fell short in the third and decisive set.

After winning the first set, the girls had a letdown in the second and third sets, and lost 19-25, 25-17, 15-10.

Again, the inconsistency in the serves were the undoing for the girls.

Aside from that however was that some of the girls are still scared of the ball, ducking out of the way. That cannot happen at a 6th grade level.

In a five team division, all but one team makes the playoffs, so at (1-3) their hopes for the post-season are very much alive.

But they'll need to get their act together to avoid more gut wrenching and frustrating defeats.

3rd/4th graders make it interesting in second set

It took a while to get the youngest volleyball team in the school to get going and when they did, they almost pulled off an upset in their fourth game of the season.

After dropping the first set 25-5, the girls held leads throughout the second set before ultimately dropping the second set 25-20.

Avalon and Rebecca were both very solid on their serves while Catharine and Sara chipped in also with a few returns.

Midway through the season, the girls are slowly getting acclimated to the game of volleyball. They still have their moments where they are learning, but progress is being made which is the most important thing.

The girls are beginning to call out their balls and managing to get some serves over.

Again, this is a team made up of four 3rd graders and two 4th graders, playing in a 4th grade division.

On Friday night, the girls lost in straight sets 25-13, 25-14.

Saturday Results

3rd/4th grade volleyball lost this morning 25-5, 25-20.

The 7th/8th grade soccer team loses again by a goal, 2-1. Alan had the lone score.

And the 7th/8th grade girls took 4th place in the all day volleyball tournament at Mercy.

Friday night results

This just in, the 7th/8th grade girls are now (3-1) after winning 25-12, 25-8.

After winning the first set, the 5th/6th grade team lost the next two, and lost in three sets for the third straight week, 19-25, 25-17, 15-10.

And the 3rd/4th grade lost their third game of the year, 25-13, 25-14. They play again Saturday morning.
