Three teams headed to the championship, baseball clinches playoff berth

It was a historic day for St. Mary's as three of the girls basketball teams all won their playoff games and will be headed to the championship.

The 8th grade began the day with a 21-10 win.

The 6th grade followed suit with a defensive shutdown of the ages, winning 8-2, a game they didn't score in during the second half.

Then the 5th grade capped off the day on the court with a dominant 30-7 win, which saw five of the team's seven girls get on the scoresheet.

And in frigid cold temperature, the 5th grade baseball team made history again, becoming the first St. Mary's team to win two regular season games, as they shutout the other team 6-0. With the win, the boys clinched a playoff berth.

It's going to be a quick turnaround for the 5th grade as they will play in the championship Monday night at Mission Dolores against West Portal. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

The 6th grade will then take the court Friday at 6 p.m. for their championship. The game will also be played at Mission Dolores.

The 8th grade championship is still to be determined.

Playoffs for the 5th grade baseball team will be next Saturday at Miraloma. Game time is set for either 11:30 a.m. or 4:30 p.m.

Full recap and highlights to come late tonight. Everything should be up by tomorrow morning.
