4th grade mid-season review

Having five players on a team has usually led to success in some strange way for St. Mary's, as the current 8th grade girls won the championship twice with five, and last year's Red Team did it as well.

Maybe that good fortune will translate to the 4th grade boys.

"I am very pleased with our season so far," said head coach Constance Wong. "I can tell the boys are having a lot of fun, which is the most important thing."

Part of the fun comes with winning and part of the winning has to do with Jonathan who has been unreal as a 4th grader, setting a new career high week after week. In four games, he is averaging 16.3 points per game.

His teammates have also picked up the slack recently with Jason providing strong defense and grabbing rebounds, and they've gotten some secondary scoring from Ryan and Justin.

As of now it seems like five players isn't much of a problem.

"It isn't that tough," Constance said. "The boys have been really good and energetic throughout each game. We also don't have to worry about substitution rules."

From day one, the team has improved, and will need to continue this pace to make a good run during the playoffs.

"My team has improved individually and as a team," said assistant coach Dennison Fong. "Everybody can make a decent layup now. They execute the inbound plays decently. They are more efficient on the offensive end. They are throwing better outlet passes. They are filling lanes decently. Their jump shots are starting to go in. They are getting rebounds. They are passing the ball better. They are starting to look for open players."

Half way through the season, they sit at (4-0) at the top of their division. For them to continue this however, they'll need to have others step up a little more, if Jonathan has an off game.

That'll start with shooting the ball as some of the players on the team are afraid to take a shot. If they can get into a rhythm of taking a shot, it makes the team much more dangerous.
