8th grade can't build on first win

If you are one of those people who likes to examine the standings, and play they beat them, so therefore they should beat them, then the 8th grade should've won Saturday's game convincingly.

Except games aren't played in hypotheticals.

After winning their first game of the season last week, the 8th grade looked more like their season long selves in a 37-24 loss.

Working to their disadvantage was Brandon Khuu not at 100% due to his ankle injury. Brandon Tom fighting the flu, and Christian, practicing only once with the team.

They looked discombobulated and had a game that was winnable once again slip away.

But then again, when the games keep slipping away over and over, is the team really capable of stringing together victories?

Offensively, they just didn't get much, with no player scoring more than six points, which is not going to cut it at the 8th grade level, and especially not in division four.

This loss just compounded their overall frustrating 8th grade year, and even if they win the final game of the season next Saturday, their final campaign on the basketball court will be characterized a disappointment.

With a team filled with such talent, it's a tragedy to see the lack of effort in practices, which then translate to the failures come game time.

By no means is this team full of lazy players, but one or two tend to poison the well, as with last year;s 8th grade girls team.

The constant immaturity shown at practices by certain individuals cause a chain reaction of the entire team slowing down a step, and there comes a point where there's nothing a coach can do.

One of their coaches said that the team sprints very fast in practice when timed. But once the stopwatch gets stowed away, a few players decide to lag and drills become a chore, and not something the team wants to get better at doing.

Mercifully, this forgettable season comes to a close next Saturday.
