4th quarter blitz propels DeMarillac 8th graders

With 6:46 left in the fourth quarter, the 8th grade held a 16-12 lead.

But one thing about this team is that when they score, they can score in bunches.

Three quick hoops made it a 22-12 game, and a 14 point fourth quarter outburst gave the 8th graders a 30-15 win as they improve their record to (5-0) on the season.

Julio and Pablo both shared the game high, scoring 10 points each and Sebastian and Anthony both added 4 points each in the fourth quarter.

By no means was this a pretty game for the first three quarters as the team struggled once again from the free throw line.

On offense, they had opportunities to stretch this game out early but never pulled away because of their missed lay-ups.

They held a 10-0 lead midway through the second and settled for a 10-5 lead going into the half.

Playing against a team with only five players, they were able to draw fouls against the opposition, as the other team finished the game with only four on the court.

Their weakness is nothing new, and that's their lack of fundamentals.

Going off on the proper foot for a lay-up, boxing out, good solid passes. All those contribute to them not being able to win these games decisively.

At times they can get lazy and they rely more on their athleticism than their teamwork.

In the fourth quarter, there were some great passes and timely defense. The final seven minutes should be what the entire team strives for.

With Jamie playing in her Washington game, the great Derek Kwong did the scorebook.
