From quarters two through four, the St. Mary's 8th graders played their best game of the season.
However the first quarter might have arguably been their worst.
They spotted the other team a 16-0 lead before getting on the scoreboard, and ended up losing 39-16, their sixth straight loss of the season.
Their offense was pretty good this afternoon as Jason had a career high 8 points, and Anthony hit two jumpers in the first half.
The shots the 8th graders were getting were pretty good but they weren't going into the basket. The problem was the other team was making their shots.
Defense and rebounds, amongst many other things have plagued the 8th graders all season long, but today their offense was probably at its best.
There was decent ball movement and the shot selection for the most part was good.
Unfortunately, they at times are just too over-matched, and can't find ways to score consistently and defend consistently.
After a good practice on Sunday, Jason put his moves to work and was a force in the paint, as he worked his way to a career high. He made good decisions with the ball and played with some aggression, which had been lacking in previous games. If it weren't for a few bounces of the ball, he could've easily had double digits in scoring.
It was that type of effort and execution that the team needs for their final two games.
Hopefully today's performance was a step in the right direction and they can continue the momentum they picked up from today.
