The lone bright spot in an otherwise not so good day so far today for St. Mary's sports was the 5th/6th grade who improved to (5-1) on the year with a 25-16, 25-14 win.
The 7th/8th grade soccer team caught a bad break at the end as an official ruled a handball late in the game. The other team capitalized on a penalty kick and tied it at 2-2, which was the final score.
On paper, this was a game they should've won. They beat this team 5-0 in their previous matchup, but the boys came into this game thinking it was going to be the same result. It didn't, and they were lucky they tied and didn't lose. Lesson learned we hope.
The 3rd/4th grade girls lost their game 25-11, 25-16. They were flat in the first set but had a good showing in the second set, even trailing by as little as 16-14, before eventually dropping the set.
The 6th/7th grade soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit early on and prevailed for a 2-1 victory. Alan netted another goal and Jaime found the back of the net for the first time this season. Their record is now (4-1-2).
