13th unlucky for 8th grade

The 8th grade was eliminated from the playoffs tonight, a 41-23 loss in the semi-finals of the CYO playoffs.

It was a very slow paced game in the first few minutes, with the 8th grade failing to capitalize on some open looks and lay-ups. They gave up two 3-pointers and were trailing 6-0 midway through the first.

The 8th grade just didn't seem very aggressive, settling for outside shots. And when those weren't going in, the game slowly started to slip away. The halftime deficit was 12.

Not much changed in the second half, but the 8th grade did show some signs of life cutting the lead to 10 points in the 4th quarter. But that was as close as it got as tonight simply was not there night.

The class of 2009 will finish the season with an overall (5-4) record, good enough for the playoffs, something that has eluded them for years. The team which they lost to was undefeated, so there's no shame in losing to the best team in the division.
