5th/6th graders fall for second straight week in three sets

For the second straight week, the 5th/6th grade girls found themselves on the wrong end of a three set match.

After Isabella served the girls to a come from behind win in the second set, the girls buckled in the third set fell to (1-2) on the season in a 19-25, 26-24, 8-15 loss.

The girls were on the verge of blowing a 22-18 lead in the second set, surrendering six straight points to make it 24-22 in favor of the other team.

Luckily, the girl who served it over six consecutive times sent one out of bounds returning serve to the 5th/6th graders.

Isabella then rolled off two straight service points to give St. Mary's back a 25-24 lead. The other team tried to ice her by calling a timeout, but it didn't work as Isabella finished off the set with another serve, evening the match at one game a piece.

In the final set, the girls could never get any type of rhythm going in large part to their faulty serving. Every girl faulted a handful of times during the match, and almost every girl had trouble serving in the decisive third set.

It's an uphill climb for these girls as the 5th graders are serving from a 6th grade distance. However, with that being said, the girls are more than capable of doing it because each girl, despite faulting several times, has served the ball over the net on more than one occasion so far this season. It's the inconsistency that is leading to these close losses.

With three games gone by, the 5th/6th graders have been in every game and have lost two of them by a matter of a handful of points. They are right there with the best teams in their division, but they can't keep shooting themselves in the foot by making mistakes. Right now, teams aren't beating them. They are beating themselves.
