8th graders see careers come to an end

The slim playoff hope for the 8th grade boys were dashed Saturday afternoon, as they lost their final game of the regular season 37-30.

Again, the class of 2014 played a pretty good game, putting up a good fight against a team that had lost only once during the regular season.

But there were so many turnovers which led to easy baskets by the other team and the hole was too much for them to climb out of to pull of the upset.

Little basic things like boxing out on a free throw, making lay-ups or challenging a shot were lacking and it cost them in the end. Had they won, they would've been able to force a tie-breaker game which would've taken place either Monday or Tuesday.

Unfortunately, they wrap up their last season at St. Mary's with a (3-5) record and fail to make the playoffs for the first time in three years.

Overall, it wasn't too shabby. This team had its flaws but were able to walk away from their basketball careers at St. Mary's with a championship, two title game appearances and three playoff berths. They were also the first basketball team at the school to win a CYO preseason tournament.
