8th grade girls cruise to victory

The 8th grade girls are rolling and it doesn't look like anybody is going to stop them anytime soon.

It was 18-0 at the half, and the girls were well on their way to their third straight victory to start the season. The final score was 26-4.

Tomorrow the same two teams meet and barring anything drastic, it will probably be more of the same.

Offensively, the girls aren't doing anything too flashy, but defensively they are shutting teams down. Their man to man defense suffocates the other team as their opponents have trouble scoring. Most of the shots they surrender are forced shots, and if the offense isn't clicking, their defense is there to keep the 8th graders in the game.

At (3-0), they have pretty much already locked up a playoff spot in this five team division where all but one team will make the playoffs.

All their games so far have been lopsided as the girls have exceeded expectations in the first three games of the year.

Sabrina had a great game on both ends of the court, and especially on the defensive end where she blocked several shots. She is by far one of the strongest players down in the paint in years for the St. Mary's girls.

She had a game high 7 points.

This team has good balance that can score from the outside and inside as well. They are quick, but also strong and have six players that really compliment each other.

Their scoring is very distributed as evident by this afternoon's totals. Pamela had 6 points, followed by Jocelyn with 5 points, Maria 4 points, and Amanda added 2 points.
