A year ago, a game like Saturday would've been a grind it out type of struggle.
But this is 2013, as the 7th grade girls were able to overcome some cold shooting in the first half, and still win 24-6.
The bulk of the points were scored on the fast break, something the girls have improved drastically upon in a year's time.
Playing fast has been a point of emphasis for a team that is undersized and has trouble scoring points at times in the half court set.
Last year, when they had trouble shooting from the perimeter, it affected their entire game.
But Saturday, they played solid defense and scored in transition.
Fiona, who broke the seal on the basket with a 3 pointer early in the 1st quarter, has been fantastic looking down court for her teammates.
Both Kelly and Jamie were able to leak out in front of the pack and Fiona would just hit them in stride.
One great example of how you can contribute without lighting it up on the scoresheet was the play of Victoria Saturday afternoon.
She would grab rebounds and quickly make an outlet pass or dribble downcourt so she too could start the fast break.
It was still a single digit lead at 11-3 to start the 3rd quarter, but the girls put the game away on two quick plays.
Rebecca made a beautiful steal at half court and sped in for a lay-up and then Jamie finished on a 2-on-1 fast break for a quick four points.
Jamie then capped off the 7-0 3rd quarter run which put the game away with a 3 pointer and finished with a game high 9 points.
It was a very important two days for the 7th graders who were coming off two straight losses by a combined point differential of four.
Two relatively easy wins puts them at (4-2) and has them playing at their best.
However, a repeat to the playoffs is still not guaranteed as their division has several teams that currently have four victories.
They have another back-to-back next weekend, which could determine their post-season fate.
Kelly scored 6 points, while Fiona added in 5 points. Victoria's lone point came from the free throw line.
