8th grade clings on to win third place

Despite turning the ball over 10 times in the first quarter, the 8th grade boys held a 10-0 lead after one and extended it to a 14 point lead by halftime.

However, the other team would not go down without a fight.

One basket at a time, they slowly chipped away the 8th grade's lead and cut the lead to as little as three points with less than a minute left to go. That's when Moises went two for two from the line to extend their lead to 5.

The 8th graders went on to win 41-35.

After an atrocious free throw percentage heading into the third game of the preseason tournament,  they rebounded well and shot 7-11 as a team.

Justin, who declined to talk to the media after the game, had a game high of 13 points, but was plagued by turnovers in the 1st quarter. He did settle down as the game went on and was much more secure with the basketball.

Brandon K. had one of his best games in recent memory and scored 6 points points in the second quarter alone which really swung the momentum in favor of the 8th graders.

Brendan also had a nice performance and scored 6 points.

With today's win, the 8th grade takes third place in the preseason tournament.

They are the only St. Mary's team up until this point to win the first and last game of the tournament.
