Winning isn't always pretty

It was a struggle this afternoon for both the 6th and 7th grade girls. Both of their games were winnable, but they almost found ways to lost it at the end. However, both teams did enough and prevailed.

The 6th grade barely hung on and won their second game 10-9. They are now (2-0) on the season. The other team missed a lot of easy shots, and so did our girls. A lot of make able lay-ups were not converted on both sides.

The lingering problem is the inability to take care of the ball. They simply turn the ball over too many times in the course of a game--lob passes, dribbling off their own foot or simply fumbling the ball.

They are (2-0) and good teams find ways to win.

7th Grade

The 7th grade built an 11-2 4th quarter lead, only to see the other team score 6 points in the last minute of the game to cut the score to 11-8. They also did just enough at the end and win back-to-back this weekend.

The problems with the 7th grade are similar to the 6th grade. They too have problems taking care of the ball. Like most teams, they seem to only want to go right and find themselves trapped on one side of the court more often than not.

The game could've been a lot more lopsided, but several of the girls missed breakaway lay-ups.

But defensively, they were solid limiting the other team to 2 points until the last minute of the 4th quarter.

With the victory, they are now (2-1) on the season.

SATURDAY RECAPS
8th Grade
The 8th grade girls absolutely locked down their opponent Saturday with their defense. They held the opposition to 2 points until midway through the 4th quarter. They had trouble making their shots, but their defense won them the game. It's a positive sign for the 8th grade, a week after their worst defensive performance of the season.

The final was 24-11. The first half featured a good performance from the free-throw line as the team shot 6-of-11, a drastic improvement from their average during the season.

3rd/4th grade
The 3rd/4th grade were tied with less than a minute left in the game 4-4, but the other team managed to get one in before the end of regulation. Cynthia, once again scored the 4 points. Little by little, the team is improving. They just need to get the basics down and they'll be a lot better.

7th grade
The 7th grade erased a 9-point deficit in the second-half, and came back to win 16-12. They were down 11-2, but they worked their way to the free-throw line, where they won the game. It was one of their best efforts in their two seasons.
