GIRLS BASKETBALL
8th grade
The 8th grade salvaged the lone basketball win for the girls this weekend, hanging on to a 32-29 victory to improve their regular season record to (3-1).
The girls led by as much as 11 in the second half, but they have a lot of trouble playing with the same intensity and skill when they have such a huge lead. The other team cut it to 3 points with two seconds left in the game, but the 8th graders hung on for the victory.
Missed lay-ups and free-throws, the two things that have plagued them all year, did again today. They shot 5-of-21 from the line and missed more than 10 lay-ups.
Knowing that they didn't play their best, and they were able to win is always a good sign. They just need to put one complete game together.
6th grade
The 6th grade dropped both games this weekend, yesterday by 2 points and today by just one. Turnovers absolutely led to their fate today. Couple that with missed lay-ups and free-throws, they now find themselves at (2-2).
They were up 3 points in the 4th quarter, but were unable to hold on to the lead. After starting the season with two straight wins, they have now lost two in a row.
The good thing is that both of the games they played were winnable, so if the mistakes can be corrected, the team should be in good shape.
3rd/4th grade
For the second straight game, the 3rd/4th graders jumped out to a 2-0 lead, only to see it disappear right away. The other team featured a girl who has about a head taller than any of our girls. She clogged up the lane and essentially scored all the other team's points. The final was 16-4.
