8th grade punches ticket to the championship

For a minute there, it didn't look possible.

Down 23-22, with less than two minutes in the game, the 8th grade girls found themselves behind a point for the first time. But they scrapped and scrapped.

With about 20 seconds left in the game, Sophia stepped up to the free-throw line for a one-and-one. She hit the first one with ease and drained the second one to give the 8th grade a 24-23 lead.

That score held up and the class of 2009 will play this Sunday for the championship.

It was a rugged, physical and sloppy game, but the girls made enough shots in the first half and clamped down on defense in the fourth, forcing the other team to shoot from the outside.

Olivia hit two huge 3-pointers in the first half, which gave the 8th grade some cushion. It was needed since the offense stalled in the second half.

As the final buzzer sounded, the five girls on the court could hardly celebrate since they had just spent all their energy pulling out one of the grittiest performances in the last few years.

FINAL BASEBALL GAME TOMORROW
