8th grade girls fall to .500, playoffs up in the air, Saturday preview

Mid-way through the first set, it looked like this could be the night the 8th grade girls punch their ticket to the playoffs. 10 serves later, everything changed.

After leading 14-13, a girl on the other team served 10 straight, and the 8th grade girls were unable to return any of them for points. The same story repeated itself except earlier in the second set and the girls fell 25-16 and 25-11, and now need some help in order to guarantee themselves a playoff spot.

After winning four straight to start the regular season, their record now sits at (4-4), but they currently are still holding on to a playoff spot. Depending on the results of two games tomorrow, they will automatically clinch a playoff spot, or be forced to play a tie-breaker (if not two) to get into post-season play.

The girls didn't play bad, but they couldn't overcome the hard overhand serves of the other team. They themselves did a lot better at serving, something they struggled with in the previous game.

Marissa and Emily T. both took several tumbles as they went for numerous balls, and Melinda had a strong bounce back game, including a beautiful tip at the net. The 8th graders went away from the bump, set and spike, which was natural since they were trailing.

Now the girls should know where they stand and what they need to work on, because their next game is the game where there will be no margin of error and the difference between going on or going home could rest on a handful of plays.
