4th grade basketball preview

Another year, another team of only five players. This time it's the youngest team in the entire school.

Jonathan and Ryan from 4th grade make up the only two boys in the class, and will also be the only two boys from St. Mary's grade school joining the team this year. Three other players from Chinese and neighboring schools comprise of the other three.

It's too bad no third grade boys joined, but we will have to do with what we have, as St. Mary's has learned to do in the last several years.

Jonathan and newcomer Jason are the two anchors of this team, and will probably be looked to do most of the scoring early in the season. Hopefully others will be able to chip in little by little as the season progresses.

What is going to be the biggest task will be their conditioning. Can only five players last the arduous 24 minutes it takes to play a game?

If they are able to, there's no reason why this team shouldn't be good enough to make a playoff run. Only their conditioning will tell.

They play their first game tomorrow night, 5 p.m. at Cornerstone.
