7th/8th graders dominate in round 1

The 7th/8th grade girls began the St. Mary's Athletics season Tuesday night with a dominant 25-8, 25-5, 15-7 three set victory.

Because the game went by so fast, both teams agreed to play a third set to give the other team some more game experience.

This marked the sixth year of St. Mary's volleyball sicne it took a hiatus in the 2000s and the team they played was made up of girls who are on the volleyball court for the first time. So this time, it was a relatively experienced St. Mary's team playing against newbies.

Coming off a championship last season, Victoria, Fiona, Ivy and Edwena are seasoned veterans and are trying to set up a bump, set, spike whenever possible. Victoria has been learning the setter position and Edwena has been throwing down some vicious spikes.

Fiona served ten straight over the net in the second set. The girls will play again Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m.

Vivianna, Karina and Britney are the 7th graders playing up with the 8th grade, since only four girls in the 8th grade class decided to play this year.
