Volleyball Tournament Night #2: 7th/8th grade advances to finals, 4th/5th grade begins

The 7th/8th grade girls will play for the tournament championship Friday night after a 25-10, 25-16 victory Wednesday night.

With all seven players in action, the girls actually trailed 1-0. But after they tied it at one, they never looked back and ran away with the first set.

For the second straight day, Fiona served ten straight balls over the night to stake the 7th/8th graders out to a 11-1 lead.

Karina, Edwena, Ivy and Fiona all at one point or another were successful in spiking the ball.

The other team was definitely an upgrade over the team they played Tuesday night, and were able to rally together several long exchanges.

With two wins, the girls will go for gold and play for the first place title.

They are the first St. Mary's volleyball team to have ever made it to a CYO Tournament Final.

4th/5th graders make their debut
In round one action, the 4th/5th grade girls made their tournament debuts and fell 25-18, 25-11.

All six girls were able to serve the ball over the net consistently, which is a great sign of things to come.

They were up against a pretty good team who according to some folks in the crowd won a championship last season. At one point, they had a chance to tie 10-10 in the first set, but unfortunately couldn't get the tying point and fell behind soon after.

It was a very good effort up against a pretty strong team.

Their next game is at CYO Serramonte this Sunday at 6 p.m.
