CYO Preseason Girls Tournament: Day 6 - 5th grade girls lose in final round

The 5th grade girls fell 18-10 in their final game of the preseason tournament.

Michaela had a team high six points, while Kaela had her own four points.

It was 8-4 at halftime, but the 5th grade came out flat in the second half and were down 13-6 at one point.

Right now, the team looks very inexperienced and aside from a few players, a lot of girls look lost.

This, like the theme to pretty much every St. Mary's team for the girls season is a brand new team. Only two players are leftover from the team last year so team chemistry is going to take some time.

Furthermore, five of the six new girls have never played basketball until less than a month ago, so to expect everything to go smoothly in the first few games is not reasonable.

What is reasonable is that they need to improve game by game. They show bits and pieces of improvement but the consistency is still an issue.

On offense, not everyone has confidence when they touch the ball, so the ball movement is very stagnant.

Overall, the group as a whole just doesn't know the game all too well and that is problematic.

With time, they should be able to slowly pick it up, but the big question is can they do it sooner than later.
