5th grade cruises in their final regular season game

The 5th grade made a statement against a team they will most likely play in the first round with a 42-16 thumping.

They actually were down 4-0 to start the game and Jonathan was struggling early on to find his shot. But good shooters need to keep shooting and that's what Little Johnny did.

When it was all said and done, Jonathan finished with a game high 20 points and 8 assists.

Michael registered his career high with 11 points.

Jason L., one of the new players to this team has really transformed into a dominant presence down low, as he was great on the boards, grabbing rebound after rebound. He also had a career high with 8 points.

The team they played as no slouch, as their opponent is slated to be the No. 3 seed in the division. This sets up a potential playoff rematch between the two squads, and a big victory like this should give the 5th grade a definite edge psychologically going into their next game.

But a lot of crazy things can happen, so the 5th graders need to play the same way they did tonight to avoid an upset.

Last season, they blew out the team they played in the playoffs in the regular season. But their season came to an abrupt end in a sudden death overtime loss.

This year however is a different team. With three new players, they have a better grip of the game and really emphasize defense.

"Overall our defense was great," said coach Dennison Fong, who is also a vegetarian.

Their final regular season is (7-1), a pretty impressive feat. They'll go into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed and will look to continue their winning ways for a shot at the championship game.
