CYO Preseason Girls Tournament: Night 3 - Edwena's career high gives 6th grade a win

Edwena set a new career high with 7 points, and the 6th grade girls were victorious 13-5 in game two of the CYO preseason tournament.

It was a very rough games with both teams draped all over each other, but the 6th graders were able to play through the physicality and pull out a win.

They nursed a 6-3 lead and stretched out their lead to 7 points early in the fourth on buckets by Fiona and Edwena.

From the free throw line, Edwena was a very impressive 3-for-4.

The 6th grade led 2-0 after one and doubled it when Kelly hit a nice bank shot midway through the second quarter.

Jamie's jumper in the third accounted for the only 6th grade bucket in the third quarter.

It was a nice turnaround for the girls who were blown out in their first game Tuesday night. One big difference for the 6th grade was the fact they were able to get off shots, something they had trouble doing for most of the game Tuesday.

One of those girls was Rebecca, who made her St. Mary's debut. She had a fast break lay-up in the second and almost scored on the breakaway.

After two games, the team of nine are starting to blend. Four of the girls are brand new and have never played in a basketball game before this week, so there is going to be some growing pains.

So for a team that was just put together weeks ago, a win in their second game is a great building block for the rest of the season.

They will play for the consolation championship Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
