Top seed too much for the 3rd grade

The 3rd grade boys lost 19-8 in their playoff game this morning, concluding their first season of basketball here at St. Mary's.

Brendan had a team high 4 points, while Nathan and Calvin each chipped in with two points apiece.

Up against the number one seed in the division, the 3rd graders trailed from start to finish, as it was 8-0 by the end of the first.

Their opponent moved the ball at a real good pace, and made a lot of outside shots, something the 3rd graders could not do.

In the case with any game, a team usually either beats the other team or one team will find a way to beat itself. Today, the 3rd graders were clearly beaten by a superior team.

The 3rd grade wraps up their first season of basketball with a playoff berth, the first time a St. Mary's 3rd grade team has made the playoffs in close to 10 years.

They finished the regular season needing to win two straight, and with their backs against the wall, came through.

Adding to the record books, they also recorded the first basketball shutout in the modern day era of St Mary's Athletics.

After getting down early, Brendan hit his two shots in the second quarter including a real nice runner from long range. The score was 12-4 at halftime.

Calvin had a nice pump fake and dribble to the basket for his points and Nathan scored late in the game to account for his bucket.
