Championship rematch set for 6th grade

It's as good as it gets as far as CYO rivalries are concerned.

With a 30-23 playoff win Saturday afternoon, the 6th grade boys will get another crack at OLV for the championship next Sunday.

This match-up will mark the fifth time these two teams have met in the last two seasons, with OLV holding on to a 3-1 edge.

But the wins and losses in the past are truly meaningless as the two teams square off in the championship for the second straight year.

How the teams got to this point are a little bit different than last season.

OLV came in third after a first place regular season finish last season and upset the number two seed Mission Dolores on their home court.

When these two teams met in the regular season, the 6th grade was victorious 36-32.

The 6th graders on the other hand have not lost a regular season game. In fact, their only losses in the last two years have come at the hands of OLV.

In Saturday's playoff game, Jonathan hit five 3 pointers and had a game high 18 points leading the team to its 11th straight victory.

They'll need a 12th if they want to complete the cycle.

Overall, it wasn't the 6th grade's best game as they weren't clicking on all cylinders offensively. In fact, they only scored two points in the 4th quarter.

Jason L. chipped in with 8 points, while Michael and Jason H. both had a bucket each.

All eyes will be on CYO Serramonte next Sunday at 12 p.m. when these two teams go at it again.
