Thursday Night Girls Tourney Recap

It was not a good night to have a 4th quarter lead.

We start with the 6th grade who led by 14 points going into the final six minutes of the game. They were taught a valuable lesson that no lead is safe as the other team capitalized off the girls' turnovers and outscored the 6th graders 15-0 in the final quarter, coming back to defeat the girls in shocking fashion 23-22.

Every time the 6th grade touched the ball in the fourth, they seemed to throw the ball away. The ball handlers on the team had trouble getting open. Inbounds passes were heaved to nowhere. Girls who actually had the ball traveled.

All that added to a collapse in a game that was well in the bag. Not even the other team felt like they could come back, but they did in historic fashion.

The 7th grade put together a strong effort, but could not hold an 8 point lead in the 4th quarter.

Leading 25-24 on a 1-and-1, the girls missed a box out, which led to an easy put back lay-up with less than 10 seconds to go in the game.

But they still had a chance to win it, but missed a lay-up at the end.

So for the second straight game, the 7th graders lose a tough one, this time by the score of 26-25.

The 8th graders played a little better than they did in game one, but still missed so many lay-ups. Their coach James said if they had made their lay-ups they could've won this game by 20.

Instead, they settled for a 16-13 loss.

All teams play Saturday in the final round of the tournament.
