7th grade a step slow in latest loss

The playoffs will begin early for the 7th grade next Friday night as they will play for the last playoff spot in their division.

With a 32-21 loss this afternoon, they are now set up for a win or go home scenario.

There was not much energy or jump in the 7th grade step from beginning to end. Part of the problem was their atrocious play on the defensive end. They couldn't rebound and they couldn't play defense.

Already without Brendan, one of their physically biggest player on the team, they needed to rebound and rebound they didn't. Since they couldn't grab boards, they weren't able to kick out the outlet passes to Justin to start their fast break.

In the half court set, they also had trouble keeping players in front of them, as they didn't move their feet and were out of position all game long.

By the time they started pressing in the fourth quarter, the game was already out of reach.

It was a 16-12 game at halftime, and the 7th grade came out completely flat in the third. They were outscored 12-0 and were down 24-12 heading into the fourth.

Justin hit a 3 pointer midway through the fourth and cut the lead down to 7, but that's as close as they got.

They are now in danger of not making the playoffs for the first time since 4th grade, and could once again finish (4-4) for the fourth straight year.

Offensively, they had some decent looks at the basket, but the ball movement was very poor in the half court.

Brandon Tom had a good game in his two quarters of play, hitting a jump shot in the fourth, as well as nailing both of his free throws in the first.

The 7th grade will play with their backs against a wall from here on out, because one loss will end their season prematurely once again.
