8th grade girls take rematch, win in two sets for the first time

The 8th grade girls didn't waste time this morning and won in straight sets for the first time ever, 25-18 and 25-12, improving to (4-0) on the season.

The last time they played this team, they went to three sets. Two was plenty enough as they played solid and steady volleyball. There was nothing too spectacular but the basic fundamentals that they showed were stellar. Serves were going over consistently, they were able to return balls. There weren't any prolong stretches in the game where they lost on consecutive points.

They would win 3-4 points, and then give up one, and then come right back and string together another few points. They would slowly chip away and took the first set.

The second set was a little back and forth, and at one point 9-7. That's when Emily T. stepped up and served for 10 consecutive points, the first time in the modern St. Mary's athletics history that has happened. At 19-7, the girls were in control and breezed to the 25-12 set win.

All the girls played strong games, most notably Sally, Michelle and Tianna, who had a good bounce back game.

Tianna had trouble serving the last game, but today was not the case. She is working on an overhand serve and got it over 2 out of 3 times. She's definitely strong enough to continue serving this way for the remainder of the season.

Perhaps the highlight of the contest was when Patricia made a beautiful play at the net, and tipped the ball over for a point.
